About the Project

Preparing the Next Generation of Maritime Professionals

The global maritime industry is at a crossroads. By 2027, the sector faces a projected deficit of 92,000 qualified officers. At the same time, it must urgently navigate the green transition, defend against rising cybersecurity threats, and address a severe lack of diversity - with women currently making up less than 2% of the seagoing workforce.

Building a European network of Maritime CoVEs

SeaAhead (Sailing Acceleration through Vocational Excellence and Innovation) is a 48-month Erasmus+ initiative designed to solve the existential bottlenecks facing maritime education. By uniting education, industry, and research, we are building a European network of Maritime Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs).

How We Will Get There

Our four strategic pillars

01 — Vocational Education & Training

Integrating Extended Reality (XR) and advanced simulation technologies into maritime learning for immersive, hands-on training experiences.
